| Bruce Turnbull at work on a recent commission
"Nature also provides us with elements of fire and metal. So I go on to the permanence of bronze. Through fire, the artist and his wood are transformed to something not yet seen. This is a continuous play in which the next act is a great surprise and more beautiful than I ever could have planned."
"Now that we have touched, where do we go from here? Go on--beyond me. Look for the unknown beyond the limitations of my art. Find through my art something new and let that contact nurture and guide you to greater life and higher purpose."

"The Torch"
"The design is already there. I simply bring it to life by taking away what hides it." Because of its strength, Bruce says, "Bronze allows me a greater range of interpretation. With bronze I can be more innovative. Bronze has a timeless quality which only improves with age".

| Bruce has devoted his life to carving beneath surfaces, to getting at the heartwood. His art springs from a tradition of physical contact with nature's raw but shyly hidden kernel. His home and studio reflect that vocation; set on the wild headland of Kahakuloa, it is at once home, sculpture garden, and a bit of a temple. For Bruce Turnbull's sculpture inevitably drives not only into the heart of the wood, but also into the center of the mystery, as well. |
