A rare Hawaiian red bird with a gentle curved beak, similar to the hummingbird. It only flies above 2000' feet in the Hawaiian islands. It's tiny feathers were used in King Kamehameha's coronation cloak on display at the Bishop Museum. Selected for the Malama Wao Akua juried art exhibit featuring the native plants and wildlife of Maui at the Viewpoints Gallery, Makawao, Maui, Hawaii.
